Lec 1 Flashcards
What is RBC count ?
Number of red blood cell in specific volume of blood
Hemoglobin count ? (HGB)
Amount of hemoglobin in specific volume of blood
What is hematocrit (HCT) ?
Ratio of RBCs in whole blood
What is the packed cell volume (PCV)?
Same hematocrit
What is mean corpuscular volume ?(MCV)
Average volume of RBCs
What is the unit of MCV?
Femtoliter
What is the most important RBCs index ?
Mean corpuscular volume
What is the normal value of MCV?
80-100 femtoliter
What is the macrocytic RBCs?
Large volume of RBCs (more than 10p femtoliter)
What is the microcytic RBCs?
Low volume of RBCs (less than 80 femtoliter)
What is the mean corpuscular hemoglobin?
Hemoglobin per RBC
What is the unit of MCH?
Picogram
What is the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration?
Concentration of hemoglobin in packed blood or in hematocrit
What is hyperchromic ?
Highly hemoglobin in RBCs (hight MCHC)
What is hypochromic?
Low hemoglobin in RBCs (low MCHC)
What is red cell distribution width (RDW)
Measures the vibration in size of RBCs
What is anisocytosis?
Variation of size of RBCs
Where we detected high reticulocyte count?
And thing lead to hemolysis and in acute blood loss
Where we see low reticulocyte ?
Disease in bone marrow or depression in bone marrow due to other disease or drug
What is the normal range of hemoglobin in male & female?
13.5 in male & 12 in female
What is the functional classification of anemia?
Blood loss , decreased RBCs production , hemolytic anemia
What is the morphological calssification of anemia?
1-microcytic anemia
2-normocytic anemia
3-macrocytic anemia
What is the cause of microcytic anemia ?
Iron deficiency, thalassemia, may be anemia of chronic disease , sideroblastic anemia
What is the cause of normocytic anemia ?
Hemolysis , acute blood loss , anemia of chronic disease
What is the cause of macrocytic anemia ?
1-megaloblastic anemia
B12 & folate deficiency, drugs or toxin
2-non-megaloblastic anemia
Chemotherapy, aplastic anemia, drug or toxin
What is the irons storage pool?
Hemosiderin & ferritin
What is the good measure of iron store
Ferritin
How iron transport?or which protein use to transport iron?
Transferrin protein
What is the cause of iron deficiency?
Poor nutrition intake , blood loss , increase demand , malabsorption
What is the change that occurs with iron deficiency anemia?
Low serum ferritin & iron
Hight transferrin & hight TIBC
What is the change that occurs in RBCs in iron deficiency anemia?
1-hypochromic RBCs 2-microcytic RBCs 3-anisocytosis 3-poikilocytosis 4-low reticulocyte
What is poikilocytosis?
Variation in shape of RBCs
What is the change occurs in peripheral blood in megaloblastic anemia?
Egg shape RBCs (Macrocytic)
Hypersegmented neutrophils and large platelets
What is the change occurs in bone marrow in megaloblastic anemia?
Hyper cellular , megaloblastic erythroid progenitor, giant metamyelocytes , abnormal large megakaryocytes
