Q

What is the leave structure made of and what is their use

A

-waxy cuticle (To prevent water loss from the plant)
-upper / lowerepidermis (To protect the cells inside of the leave and to prevent water loss with tightly packed cells)
-Palisade Mesophyll (Tightly packed column shaped cells fill with chloroplast to conduct photosynthesis)
-Spongy mesophyll( Loosely pack cells, to allow gas exchange during the process of photosynthesis)
-Stoma/stomata ( Holes at the bottom of the leaves to allow gas exchange)
-Guard cell ( Open and close base on the environment) works together with the stomata
Vascular Bundle
-Xylem ( Transport water and minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant )
-Phloem ( Transport food/ starch/ glucose prepared during photosynthesis to the rest of the plant )

Q

Features of the stomata

A

They close when they lose water and open up When it gains back water, the size of the stomata depends on the ability of water.

Q

Why do stomata close on a hot sunny day

A

Even thought the stomata need to open during a hot sunny day so that they can conduct gas exchange in photosynthesis, they still have to close to conserve water and stop it from being evaporated away.

Q

Why is the palisade cell arranged vertically

A

It is arranged vertically to maximize the absorption of light and it also increase the change of light hitting one of the chloroplast (as it longer in height . )
