Learning theory Flashcards
Classical conditioning
Learning by associating two stimuli until the neutral produces a conditioned response
Operant conditioning
Learning through consequences of behaviour- reinforcement/ punishment
Primary drive
Created by deprivation for needed substance (food)
Secondary drive
A learned drive through association from the primary drive (attachment)
Animal studies weakness
P- Limitation- lack of support from animal studies
E- e.g. Lorenz- geese imprinted on first moving object regardless of food
E- Harlow- monkeys attached to soft mom, not food mom
L- Other factors than food play role.
Conditioning in attachment strength
P- using conditioning in attachment
E- e.g. baby may associate feeling comfort w one person
E- May influence baby’s choice of main att
L- LT used in understanding att
Lack of human baby supporting studies
P- limitation- lack of human baby studies that support
E- Schaffer & Emmerson (1964)- discovered baby primary att was mother regardless of who fed them.
E- Isabella et al (1989)- interactional syncrony predicted att
L- food is not main factor in att
