A

anything which has the effect of increasing the likelihood of the behaviour being repeated by using consequences that are PLEASANT when they happen e.g. crying and being picked up

  • babies cry for comfort - this builds attachment because it leads to a response from the caregiver
  • if the correct response is given, crying is reinforced
  • the care giver responses with comforting ‘social suppressor’ behaviour
