Learning Standard 1 Test ( Science ) Flashcards
Name the three Variables in an experiment
- Independent Variables
- Dependadnt Variables
- Controlled Variables.
What is an Independant Variable?
A Variable you can change or manipulate
What is a Dependant Variable?
a Variable that is affected by your independent variable.
What is a Controlled Varible?
Variables that stay the same throughout the experiment.
if the arrows on a target are in a group but are not near the bullsizy is that accurate or pursise?
Accurate
If the arrows are all on the bullsiy, is that accurate or purses?
Both
if the arrows are all close to the bullsy but not on it, is that accurate or pursise?
Persise
what are the 2 properties of matter?
-Qualitative
-Quanititaive
What does Qualitative mean?
Measures using instruments such as a ruler. Measures in #’s
What does Quanlitative mean?
Information that cant be meaused, Uses your senses.
Sight, hears, smell, taste, touch.
What is the Percent Error formula?
Eperimental value - accepted value / accepted value x 100
what is this percent error?
a student finds the density of a liquid to be 0.1369g/cm3 the known density of the liquid is 0.1478g/cm3
0.1369 - 0.1478 / 0.1478 x 100 = - 7.378%
How many significant figures does this number have?
0.0000482
3
How many signifigant figures does this number have?
3.00 x 10cubed3
3
How many signifigant figures does this number have?
122.000
6
What is the answer to this signifigant figure equation?
36.0 x 5.0
18 g/cm3
What is the answer to this signifigant figure equation?
3.22 + 2
5 g/cm3
What are the two claffsifications of a pure substance?
-Element
- Compound
what are the two clasifications of a mixture?
- Homogeneous (solution)
-Heterogeneous
How would you classify H2O2?
Pure substance, Compound
How woulud you classify Hot tea?
Homogeneous Solution
How would you classify Rasian Bran?
Heterogeneous Substnace
How would you classify Neon?
Pure Substance, Element
What is the definition of matter
Anything with mass and takes up space
What are Physical Properties?
They can be observed or measured without changing the identity of the substance. Ex.)
Texture, color, smell, melting point, boiling point, density.
What are Chemical Properties?
Describes a substance’s ability to change and transform into a different substance. Ex.)
Flammability, reactivity, ability to rust
Is Digesting food a chemical or a physical change?
Chemical
Is rusting metel a chemical or physical change?
Chemical
Is melting ice a physical or chemical change?
Physical
Is chopping wood a physical or chemical change?
Physical
