Learning Plan 1 Vocabulary Flashcards
What is a cathode ray?
A stream of high-speed electrons that originates from the cathode in an x-ray tube.
What is a dental radiograph?
A photographic image produced on an image receptor by the passage of x-rays through teeth and related structures.
What is a dental radiographer?
Any person who positions, exposes, and processes dental x-ray image receptors.
What is fluorescence?
A glow that results wen a fluorescent substance is struck by light, cathode ray, or x-rays.
What is radiation?
A form of energy carried by waves or a stream of particles.
What is x-radiation?
A high-energy radiation produced by the collision of a beam of electrons with a metal target in an x-ray tube.
What is an x-ray?
A beam of energy that has the power to penetrate substances and record image shadows in photographic film or digital sensors.
How do radiographs benefit patients?
Provides information that can not be seen by the naked eye.
What is the purpose of radiation guidelines?
To protect the patients and ourselves to minimize the amount of radiation both parties are exposed to.
