Abdomen
Portion of the body between the chest and the groin
Activities of daily living
Activities usually performed by a person in the course of a normal day such as washing, dressing, brushing teeth or hair, and eating
Agitation
A state of increased activity; purposeless, restless movements
Ambulation
Ability to walk, not confined to bed
Anus
External opening of the rectum
Aphasia
Loss of ability to understand or express speech
Bed rest
Person must stay in bed
Catheter
Usually a rubber or plastic tube put into a body opening to drain fluid
Cardiovascular System (CVS)
Pertaining to the heart and blood vessels
Cerebral vascular accident (CVA)
Often referred to as a stroke, a rupturing or blockage of a blood vessel in the brain
Central nervous system (CNS)
Part of the nervous system pertaining to the brain and spinal cord
Cognitive impairment
Inability to use the mental processes appropriately; difficulties with perception, thinking, reasoning, and remembering
Confusion
A mental state characterized by disorientation in time, place or person
Contracture
Shortening of the muscles in the arms and/or legs so the person has difficulty extending the limbs
Defecate
To have a bowel movement
Distension
The state of being stretched out or enlarged
EENT
Ears, eyes, nose and throat
Emesis
Vomited fluid
Edema
Abnormal accumulation of fluid in a part of the body; swelling
Enema
Fluid put into the lower bowel through the anus to cause a person to have a bowel movement
Ethics
A code of conduct
Fecal impaction
Stool tightly wedged or packed in the rectum
Feces/stool
Waste from the digestive tract that is formed in the intestine and expelled through the rectum and anus

Pertaining to the stomach and intestines
Genital area/perineum
Area of the external reproductive and excretory organs
Genital, urinary, reproductive
Pertaining to the reproductive and urinary system (GUR)
