Learning Goals Flashcards
Describe the characteristics of all mollusks. (ISBRA:MF)
Invertebrates
Soft body
Bilateral symmetry
Reproduce sexually
Adaptations:mantle,foot(what sets them apart)
Explain the diversity of mollusks. (SANE)
The different types of mollusks are Gastropods, Cephalopods, and Bivalves. You can tell them apart based off of their name, amount of shells, eating habit, and adaptations.
Compare and Contrast an open circulatory system and a closed circulatory system.
Open circulatory system - A circulatory system that moves blood out into the open spaces around the organs. (Slower moving)
Closed circulatory system - A circulatory system in which the blood is enclosed in tubes or vessels. (Fast moving)
COMPARE:Both systems move blood.
Describe the importance of mollusks. (FEHB)
Food source
Economy-job,jewelry, decorations
Shells can be a home
Biological indicator (detect of something is wrong in the environment)
NEGATIVE:CAUSE ILLNESS, DESTROY PLANTS/PROPERTY
Describe the characteristics shared by all segmented worms. (ISBSbutareH,T)
Invertebrates
Soft body
Bilateral Symmetry
Live in water OR on land
Reproduce sexually BUT ARE HERMAPHRODITIC
Two opening digestive system
Describe the physical adaptations (structures) of segmented worms that allow them to feed. NOT COMPLETELY RIGHT (MPECGIA)
Mouth
Pharynx
Esophagus
Crop
Gizzard
Intestine
Anus.
Explain the environmental importance of earthworms.
The importance of flatworms is to aerate the soil, and return nitrogen to the soil.(N-CYCLE)
(Aerate - to supply with air)
Describe the characteristics of arthropods.
Invertebrates
Bilateral symmetry (Segmented body-means divided in seperate parts)
Sexual Reproduction
Closed Circulatory System
Hard Exoskeleton (a hard covering that supports and protects the bodies of some types of animals. )
Found in water or damp soil
Explain the diversity of arthropods.
Amount/pairs of legs
Body segments
Mouth parts
Metamorphosis
Carnivorous/Herbivorous (Centipedes and millipedes)
Compare and contrast incomplete and complete metamorphosis.
COMPARE:Are both ways that an egg forms into an adult
CONTRAST: Complete metamorphosis has four stages. (Egg, larva, pupa, adult)
Incomplete metamorphosis only has three stages. (Egg, nymph, adult)
Explain what is meant by IPM (Integrated pest management)
Ipm is to control pests in a safe way. Using everything natural before chemical
