Learning & Behavior Final Exam Flashcards
What is ABA?
Applied Behavioral Analysis
APPLIED: it is behavior that is applied to a situation. Ex. teaching someone how to raise their hand when they want to ask a question.
BEHAVIOR: what is actual behavior?
ANALYSIS: How can we analyze and study behavior?
What is learning?
Learning is intaking information. You know you’ve learned something when behavior changes.
What is description?
Observing a phenomenon and describing it accurately.
Determinism
Determinism states that the universe is a lawful and orderly place and that all phenomenon occur as a result of events that can be recorded by science. Basically, everything can be explained by science.
Empiricism
Objective observation.
Experimentation
To investigate if a functional relation exists.
Replication
The repeating of the experiment and if your experiment was valid, then replications should produce the same or similar results. 56This is a cruicial characteristic of experiments.
Parsimony
All simple and logical explanations for a phenomena rules out. You should do this first. Basically, if you’re trying to expalin something, rmake sure that the explanation isn’t something simple and self-explanatory firstbefrore you jim to the big stuff.
Philosophic Doubt
Continually question the truthfulness of what is regarded as fact. Knowledge should always be viewed as tentative.
Applied
Affecting imporvements in behaviors that enhance and improve lives. Ex. sending a drug addict to rhab.
Behavioral
The chosen behavior must be in need of improvement. Thebehavior must be measurable in some way.
Analytic
If you change the IV, the DV should change too.
Technological
You have to be able to describe an ebent so someone else can replicate it.
Conceptually Systematic
This refers to the type of interventions used. All procedures must be described in terms of the basic priniciples of bheavior. All interpreations of the data and results should be discussed in terms of the basic principles.
Effective
Whatever you do, you must improve the behavior under investigation to a practical degree. If you have an alcholic and they are drinking more on your program and not less, then your program is not effective.
