it is a period during the performace when there are no signs of imrpovement.

- lack of motivation
- boredom

- limited ability - for example genetic
- targets set too low - set higher goals
- fatigue - DOMS

A
- extend the task/add more goals
- new coach at higher level
- more praise
- have rest to avoid fatigue
- add variety to avoid boredom
- let them know about plateau effect so they take some responsibility
- various types of feedback so they know how to imrpove
