Learning and Memory Flashcards
What are the two foundations of learning
Sensitisation and Habituation
Sensation
temporary state of heightened arousal and responsivity that accompanies sudden and surprising events
Habituation
gradual diminishing of attention and responsivity that occurs when stimulus persists
Partial Reinforcement
more persistent learning because learner accustomed to the reinforcement
Continuous Reinforcement
rapid extinction once the reinforcer is withheld
Three C’s of punishment
Contingency- relationship between behavior and punisher must be clear
Contiguity- punisher must follow behavior swiftly
Consistency-punisher needs to occur for every occurrence of the behavior
Latent learning
learning that can occur in the absence of rewards and punishments
Sperling’s partial report results
provided a mush larger estimate of iconic memory capacity
Sperling’s full report results
underestimated the capacity of by confounding the report method with the duration of iconic trace
Where is the viso-spacial sketch pad stored
right occipital parietalwher
Where is the phonological loop stored
left temporal and frontal cortex
The phonological loop
mental workspace for manipulating auditory and verbal informationV
Viso-spatial sketchpad
visual and spatial information
Central Execuative
planning and coordinating complex behavior
governed by the pre-frontal cortex
