How to build relationships
Define the term ‘role model’
Someone whose behaviour you try to copy because you admire them. Someone you look up to.
Define the word ‘culture’
This means our religion, spirituality, or the community we are from. It is our beliefs and our customs.
Describe how your culture could affect you physically
Your religion can affect the health care that you can have access to, for example a Muslim woman may find it very uncomfortable to be examined by a male doctor.
Your religion can dictate the diet that you have and when you can eat, for example during periods of fasting.
Your culture can determine your physical appearance, for example the way you dress, the way you wear your hair, and any piercings or body art.
Describe how your culture could influence you emotionally
Influences your self-esteem and your self-image. If your culture is stereotyped negatively this could affect your confidence.
Your culture can influence gender roles, and this could have a positive or negative effect.
Describe the difference between manual and non-manual work
Manual work requires the use of physical skills, for example a builder.
Non-manual work depends primarily on intellectual skills, for example an engineer or office worker.
Explain how a low income could affect you socially
A limited income means you won’t be able to go out and socialise with friends and take part in activities such as going out for a meal.
You won’t be able to afford holidays or trips away with family or friends.
