Learning Flashcards
1
Q
What is LTP
A
Long term potentiation is the process in which there is a strengthen in flow of information between two neurons increases and there is an increase in efficiency in neural transmission
2
Q
What is LTD
A
Long Term Depression isis the process in which there is a strengthen in flow of information between two neurons decreases and there is a decrease in efficiency in neural transmission
3
Q
Similarities between LTP and LTD
A
- Both play an important role is neuroplasticity
- Both involve long lasting changes to synaptic communication and the structure of a neuron
4
Q
Consolidation of Memory
A
The process of converting short term memories to long term memories
- Consolidation takes 30 minutes
- Adrenaline is present when a memory is being consolidated increase the likelihood that it will be remembered
5
Q
Role of Adrenaline
A
- A type of Neurohormone
- Enhancing survival and preparing the body for vigarious action
- Adrenaline is released when we learn something new → consolidation
- More adrenaline is released during an event that is emotionally arousing (F/F/F response)
- The release of noradrenaline is when a lot of adrenaline is released.
- This releases noradrenaline which activates the amygdala (a brain region)
- The amygdala processes the emotionally arousing experience.
