Q

Consolidation of Memory

A

The process of converting short term memories to long term memories

  • Consolidation takes 30 minutes
  • Adrenaline is present when a memory is being consolidated increase the likelihood that it will be remembered

Q

Role of Adrenaline

A
  • A type of Neurohormone
  • Enhancing survival and preparing the body for vigarious action
  • Adrenaline is released when we learn something new → consolidation
  • More adrenaline is released during an event that is emotionally arousing (F/F/F response)
  • The release of noradrenaline is when a lot of adrenaline is released.
  • This releases noradrenaline which activates the amygdala (a brain region)
  • The amygdala processes the emotionally arousing experience.
