Lean Production Flashcards
What is meant by Lean production?
A number of techniques designed to increase productivity efficiency by reducing waste (e.g. time, money, materials) and reducing resources used in production.
Name the 4 techniques used in for lean production?
Just In Time (JIT), Kaizen, Cell Production and Technological.
What is the Just In Time method of lean production?
A system whereby stocks are delivered just in time to be used in production, therefore reducing the need to hold buffer stocks and decrease the associated costs.
What is the Kaizen method of lean production?
Kaizen means ‘continuous improvement’. It is a system where continuous improvements should occur by adapting and changing production techniques gradually, in order to eliminate waste at all levels. It is that improvements should not happen as ‘once off’s’ for a long period, but lots of small steps occurring overtime.
What is the Cell production method of lean production?
It is where the flow production process is broken down into self-contained units ‘cells’ which focus on the production of a particular aspect of the product. It encourages teamwork.
What is the technological method of lean production?
It is when more/better capital equipment is used in the production process.
