- greece had to pay compensation and sanctions were threatened.

- japan wanted to expand and build an empire
- depression hit hard tariffs were put against them
- incident happened in manchuria so it was used as an excuse
- japan attacked manchuria. china appealed
- 1 year later the league decided manchuria should be returned to china
- 1933 japan invaded again
- japan removed itself from the league and continued to invade
- league was powerless

- mussolini wanted abyssinia
- in 1934 there was a dispute
- abyssinia appealed to the league
- the league failed to take it seriously as britain and france wanted good relations with italy
- league made a plan to give part of abyssinia to italy, mussolini declined
- 1935 mussolini made a full scale invasion.
- sanctions were put up for italy
- they didn’t work and when hitler marched into rhineland they gave abyssinia to mussolini
- this was a disaster for world peace
