What is direct supervision?
- requires that the PT be physically present at the facility and immediately available
-applies primarily to supervision of the student PTs and student PTAs
-some insurance providers and particular settings require this with PTA’s also
What is direct personal supervision?
-highest level of supervision
-generally applies to supervision of PT aide/tech
Per the APTA: supervising PTA off-site should consist of?
- PT must be available by telecommunication
- must be regularly scheduled and documented conferences with PTA regarding pt
- if PT supervising from off site, in person visit by PT for:
-reexam, planned d/c, change in pt medical status
-at least once a month - supervisory visit includes:
-on site reexam
-revision of POC
-eval

What to do if the state practice act doesn’t address PT students?
- apply the PTA supervision for PT students
-if Act addresses neither then look for supervision requirements of payer (insurance) policy
