5 Ways to Glorify God when you Lead Worship
1) Pour out your heart
2) Draw attention to truth
3) Treasure him
4) Share your story
5) Live it
How can you be sure if God is glorified in your worship?
You’re under the spotlight. The congregation is singing. Everyone is having a good time, but in the end… is God truly being worshiped? It’s possible for your band to be tight with musical chemistry, your congregation to be singing at the top of their lungs, and everyone dancing, shouting, lifting their hands and… The glory of God be completely ignored.
Amos 5:21-24
“I hate, I despise your religious festivals; your assemblies are a stench to me. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never failing stream”
After reading Amos 5:21-24, there’s a few things I know:
1) it’s not about the offering-there was plenty being offered.
2) it’s not about good music- it was merely noise to God’s ears
Why you’re a difficult worship leader to follow
1) You don’t speak slowly and clearly
2) Your instruction isn’t specific
3) You don’t pick a familiar song list
4) The congregation doesn’t know where to clap
5) You don’t acknowledge the congregation
7 Tips for engaging youth in worship:
1) Teach them what the Bible says about worship
2) More is caught then taught. Be the message (Model what you want to see. Worship passionately and fearlessly.)
3) Encourage a worshiping culture. (Connect with the kids who have a heart for worship. Be a good finder. Affirm the kids publicly when they worship expressively.)
4) Build the youth worship team primarily with youth. this has a several benefits.
5) Listen to the kids. (Be a student of your students. Respect their input on songs and musical styles. Be aware that teenagers taste in music is not monolithic-their preferences are widely varied and they often do not agree among themselves what they like)
6) Encourage participation in other expressions of worship. (Not everybody is into music offer to let kids do other art forms during worship time)
7) Help them connect with their roots. (Teenagers want hymns. Today’s teenagers may be the smartest generation help them experience depth and historical connection in worship)
15 things you can’t say from the stage:
1) Are you going to worship or not?
2) Are you excited to worship? Might want to let your face know about it.
3) during that last song I farted 4 times. That’s what I call a strong anointing.
4) I am personally going to pay for all of you to attend clapping workshop 101
5) I don’t feel like worshiping today
6) Once while I was throwing up all over my wife God gave me this revelation
7) I just feel like we’re supposed to worship for the entire service today. pastor, please be seated.
8) So this song that I wrote last night is incredible. Wow. Chris Tomlin, who? I am such a great songwriter. Let me teach it to you.
9) Can we just lift a crap of praise this morning?
10) Our righteousness is like filthy rags. Sort of like that tambourine player over there.
11) Wow. That guitar solo was lacking in the skill department now, wasn’t it?
12) That worship was awful. Please just watch me closer this next song.
13) If you worship a little harder maybe you’ll lose a few pounds.
14) Just soak in the presence for a few minutes. I got a run to the bathroom.
15) All I’m saying is that it will be tough for Pastor to follow worship set like that. We were unreal.
