What does it mean to be: Warfighter Courageous
You must be a warfighter first and a specialist second
Military minded and of a determined fighting spirit to overcome the adversity of circumstances faced on operations
Physical courage is expected of all leaders but also the ability to nurture moral courage to do the right thing
What does it mean to be: Emotionally Intelligent
To be both self aware and aware of your team as a foundation of effective leadership
The subsequent development of self control and iunderstanding of the needs of others
The abilty to manage relationships at all levels allowing you to work cohesively as a team, under any kind of pressure, as well as within an interdisciplinary or multinational team
What does it mean to be: Willing to Take Risks
Knowing the difference between a gamble and a risk and being able to take evaluated risks without sacrificing responsibilities
Leaders at all levels must develop an understanding that a failure to act is considered more serious of a fault than making a mistake
What does it mean to be: Flexible and Responsive
Readily willing to approach things using new ways of thinking
You must be open minded, flexible and constantly looking for the opportunities that change brings.
Able to cope with the discomfort that comes with change
What does it mean to be: Able to Handle Ambiguity
Able to deal with the risks and opportunities that come with ambiguity
The fog of war is prevalent in military scenarios especially higher leadership positions
What does it mean to be: Technologically Competent
The ability to show a high level of expertice in your field as well as being ready and able to adapt to new technologies that become available to you
You must strive to keep pace with technology on a broad front via continuous personal development
What does it mean to be: Able to Lead Tomorrow’s Recruit
Leaders must see the qualities that a new generation of recruits can bring and learn the leadership skills to maximise their potential
Everyone in the chain of command needs to understand the new generation in order to lead and inspire them to bring the RAF to new heights of excellence
What does it mean to be: Mentally Agile and Physically Robust
To be able to manage complex problems with the ability to shift thinking from one topic of thought to another
Thinking must be innovative and your mind must be receptive to many concepts
Being physically robust allows you to withstand the strain of operations and maintain mental capacity under stress
What does it mean to be: Politically and Globally Astute
– Air Power Minded
You must have a strong capacity to understand and cope with the politics of your immediate environment, which will allow you to more easily influence those around you
Simultaneously, you are to be aware of much wider issues at a national and international scale in order to make descisions under the context of air power and air warfare
