What is the definition of leadership?
The action of leading a group or an organisation
Leadership means to create a vision that people can buy into by inspiring and motivating others. It is about ‘doing the right things’
What is a Transactional/Instrumental Leader?
Focuses on systems and controls, and the existing processes and activities within an organisation, it tries to achieve efficiencies within the current environment.
Seek improvement RATHER than change.
What is a Transformational leader?
Where changes to an organisations culture, mindset and values are required in order to help the organisation respond effectively to changes within the environment.
Transformation leaders recognise the need for change and develop an alternative vision for the future.
What is an Autocratic Leader?
Individual who has control over ALL company decisions and little input from group.
Makes choices based on their own ideas and accepts no input from others.

What are they?
- Strategic Position (Analysis)
- the focus of strategic analysis is on understanding the current strategic position of the organisation. - Strategic Choice
- involves evaluating and choosing between the alternative strategies the organisation can pursue. - Strategic implementation
- looks at how those strategies are actually put into practice.

The culture of an organisation reflects what it is like to work there and the values and principles that guide it.

- Control Systems - organisations are control through numerous systems (financial, quality etc). The priorities of the organisation can be demonstrated by considering what areas are controlled the closest.
- Routines and Rituals - daily behaviour and actions that are considered acceptable, as well as celebrations &a other various office gatherings.
- Symbols - logos, offices, dress code etc.
- Stories & Myths - The people and past events talked about within the organisation often illustrate the values of the organisation &a behaviour it encourages.
- Organisational structure - the way the organisation is physically structured (functions, departments).
- Power structures - considers who holds the real power in an organisation. Often follows hierarchy but can include talent and experience.

Fundamental Principles as a professional?
- Integrity - highest level of probity. Professionals should be straightforward and honest in ALL relationships.
- Objectivity - professionals should NOT allow bias, conflicts of interest or undue influence.
- Prof competence and due care - ensure skills and competencies are continually updated and developed to enable to the clients.
- Confidentiality - respect the confidentiality of any information gained as a result of professional activity or entrusted to them by a client.
- Professional Behaviour - should comply fully with all laws and regulations whilst avoiding anything which might discredit the profession or bring in to disrepute.
