Le36.Histamines Flashcards
2-methyl histamine is a specific agonist for what receptor?
H1
4-methyl histamine is a specific agonist for what receptor?
H2
R-alpha-methyl histamine is a specific agonist for what receptor?
H3
What physiologic antagonist of histamine receptors is used during asthma attacks?
Epinephrine. Note: doesn’t block receptors but has opposing physiologic effects
When is the use of Cromelyn Sodium or Nedocromil indicated? MOA
To prevent exercise induced asthma by inhibiting the release of histamine. Note: Not effective in acute attacks b/c histamine already released.
What antihistamine classification are diphenhydramine (benadryl) and dimenhydranate (Dramamine)?
Ethanolamines.
What class of antihistamines are first line anti-parkinson’s drugs?
Ethanolamines
What antihistamine is being developed as a coating for vicodin in order to decrease drug induced nausea? What antihistamine category is it in?
Promethazine (Phenergan) is in the Phenothiazine category.
What antihistamine category is used as a common component of OTC cold medications?
Alkylamines
What is the diffefence b/t 1st and 2nd generation antihistamines?
2nd generation antihistamines do NOT cross the BBB and therefore do not cause drowsiness.
What structural difference in classic H1 receptor blockers and H2 receptor blockers accounts for H1 blockers local anesthetic effects?
H1 receptor blockers don’t have the classic histamine ring-structure nucleus, like H2 receptor blockers do, instead they have a similar chemical structure to local anesthetics
