Means a York Region community crisis response service available to residents who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The caller is connected to a crisis worker who can provide immediate response to variety of critical mental health situations. A mobile crisis response team augments the telephone services when required. The crisis response service is available 24 hours per day, seven days per week through 1-855-310-2673
Criminal act vs Mental health
When a criminal act has been committed, officers shall not apprehend suspects under the mental health act as an alternative to proceeding with appropriate charges under the criminal code.
Can you give medication to mental health patient
Officers shall not participate in the administration of any medication to a person, even at the direction of a physician or other medical authority, in accordance with procedure LE-016 Prisoner care and control and prisoner transportation

Mental health Court
The Newmarket mental health court support program provides support and advocacy to individuals 12 years and older who have a mental illness, acquired brain injury, Alzheimer’s/dementia, a developmental disability and/or addiction and are involved in the criminal justice system. Mental Health Support Team objectives
Uniform officers with involving PIC’s including incidents of hoarding (see procedure LE-385 Hoarding) and apprehensions
- Crisis assessment intervention to facilitate them remaining in their home environment, when appropriate
- Information and referrals to community resources and agencies
- Support family members and caregivers
- Support prior to or during an apprehension at the location of the apprehension or the mental health facility
MHST operational hours
10am to Midnight, 7 days a week and is supported by the 24 hour, 7 day a week service , 310-COPE
