LDS Flashcards
Why does the LDS have N/A and how does this effect samples
Missing data when taking a random sample of x amount of days may not get x amount of data back
What does TR represent, what data is it used in and how may if effect samples
Tr stands for trace meaning there is small amounts that round to 0. This can be any measurement < 0.05. It is used for measuiring rainfall
What are the types of data that are measured in the LDS
QL - qualitative
QT - quantitative
Daily mean temp (c) - QT
Daily total rainfall (mm - trace data <0.05 counted as 0) - QT
Daily total sunshine (hrs) - QT
Daily mean wind direction - QL
Daily mean wind speed (kn) - QT or (Beaufort convertion Light>moderate>fresh) QL
Daily maximun gust (kn) - QT
Daily max cloud cover - (Oktas 0-8/8) - QT
Daily mean visibility (Dm) - QT
Daily mean pressure (hpa) - QT

Population v census
Everyone u want to sample vs samplimg everyone A) all accounted , D) Time consuming
Sampling
A) less ppl , cheaper
D) not as accurate , not all groups accountable
Random
All have same chance
simple random, systematic, stratifed
simple random
A) no bais , cheap , easy , known equal chance
D) not suitable for large pop , sample frame needed
systematic
regular intervals
A) simple quick, suitable for large
D) sample frame needed
stratified
random from mutally excluisive groups
A) acc and representive
D) grouping hard
non random
quota - reseacher selects sampling
oppurtiunity - whoever is advailable and fits critera
quota
A) representive , no sample frame , easy quick
D) can be bais , inaccuate
oppurtinity
A) easy and cheap
D) unlikly to be represnative , dependant on research
