What is the Gestalt world view?
People are whole and unified entities. People have all resources in them to succeed. Here and now.
What leads to change?
being here & now and re-owning those disowned parts (fragments) and they can become whole again. acknowledge unfinished business unexpressed feeling lingered in back ground interfere in present relationships.
What are some Gestalts goals?
- -Help client gain awareness of their experiences what they doing & accepting responsibilities for own behavior, thoughts, feelings.
- Reconciling polarities: (disown/disavowed parts) “underdog” and the “thought dog”- split up parts of self balance.
What is the role of the Gestalt therapist?
interactive, challenging, very confrontational, a lot of HOW and WHAT questions, focus present, very creative past into present. Point out clt distractions -when clt tries to change subject switching “staying with that feeling” or exagerating - won’t let clt distract clt. Intervention is sub~ confrontation role playing.
Gestalt believes

Gestalt interventions:
unfinished business; underdog/touft dog; resentment type most frequent most debilitating type of unfinished business; Aha! momento: insight, suddently into nature/solution problem; Impasse: believe they don’t have the resources internal support, inability to solve problems themselves.

finding meaning and we are free and responsible for our choices and we seek meaning in a world that inheritaly provokes anxiety and meaning is not fixed.

WHEN WE ACHIEVE MEANING–death(inevitable), isolation(true), meaninglessness(world), freedom us to create meaning , freedom to love, live as we choose until we die. inevitable
what are some existential goals?
Increase awareness, recognizing we have freedom self-awareness; to find meaning striving for own identity and relationship with others.
what is the role of the existential therapist?
–client is the expert; –to be supportive and to have a willingness to self disclose and ; —to challenge client to take responsibility for themselves
What are some Existential interventions?
- encourage client to examine their value systems
- Examine their assumptions about life
- encourage clients to put what they learn into action
