3 year program

- Graduate from ABA accredited Law school
- Apply to State Board
- Pass character and fitness test

- Pass MPRE (Ethics Exam)

Contracts, documents, and transactional work, advises clients

What is Assigned council?
Appointed in their individual capacity, recieve compensatiomn on case-by-case basis
What is a Public Defender?
Employed by Govt. all clients are unable to afford private attorney. Recieve flat salary
When are parties in civil trial entitled to an attorney?
If jail time is possible, or by state statute
What services offer free legal rep. for civil cases?
Non-profits, legal clinics, or legal aids.
How are Federal judges appointed?
Nominated by President
Confirmed by Senate
What are Senate Judicial Hearings?
Only Judiciary committee questions judge nominee. Full senate votes.
How are state judges appointed?
Most are elected, or are initially appointed but must be re-elected
