Laws of Chemical combination Flashcards
What is law of conservation of Mass?
In all physical and chemical changes, there is no net change in mass hence mass can neither be created nor be destroyed in a chemical reaction.
What is Law of definite proportions?
It states that a given compound always contains exactly the same proportion of elements by weight.
What is the other name for law of definite proportion
Law of definite composition
What is Law of multiple proportions?
If two elements can combine to form more than one compound then the masses of one element which combines with the fixed mass of the other element, are in the ratio of small whole numbers.
What is Gay Lussac’s law of gaseous volumes?
When gases combine or are produced in a chemical reaction they do so in a simple ratio by volume, provided all gases are at the same temp and pressure.
What is Avogadro’s Law?
It states that equal volumes of all gases at the same temp and pressure should contain equal number of molecules.
State all the four points of Daltons atomic theory.
- Matter consist of indivisible atoms.
- All atoms of a given element have identical properties and mass.Atoms of different elements differ in mass.
- Compounds are formed when atoms of different elements combine in a fixed ratio.
- Chemical reaction involves reorganization of atoms. These are neither created nor destroyed.
