Define law
A law is an instruction set by the government that applies to everyone in that country, state or local area
Define rule
A rule is an instruction that only applies to people of a certain club like school or even just home
Define custom
A custom is rule for certain religions or backgrounds that only people of that religion have to follow. Like how Indians sit in the floor to eat dinner
Define moral standard
Moral standards is the basic steps of your day or life that you are expected to do repeatedly as part of your days agenda. Like having a shower or brushing your teeth
Define common law
Common law is based on when you are focusing on a case that is similar to a previous case so the outcome would be the same
Define statute law
Statute law is a law that if there is no previous case that is similar the ending will end differently will set a precedent
Define precedent
Precedent is the process the government goes through when making a new law
Define deterrent
A deterrent is when the government posts or releases an ad to stop something or to remind people to do the right thing. Like a smoking ad
What is the purpose of punishments
The purpose of punishments is to set to the person that is being punished that what they did was wrong and to make them not to do it again
Define family law
Family law is the law that mostly focuses on cases that include marriage, divorce, births and caregiving
Define contract law
Contract law is the law that is focused on legal arrangements and agreements between parties
Define tort law
A tort is the breach of duty imposed by the law
Define civil law
Civil law is the law that focuses on lower cases and lower criminal offence and takes place in lower courts such as the magistrate court
Which courts can set a precedent
The courts that can set a precedent are the supreme courts of states, the high court of Australia and the federal court
What is the difference between common and statute law
The difference between common and statute law is that common law is based on past cases and statute law is a new case that has no other previous similar cases and sets a precedent
