Discretionary Life Sentence
The judge decided you should remain in prison until you die
Fixed term sentence?
A term of imprisonment for a set number of months or years
Extended prison sentence
Custodial sentence plus a further period during which the offender is at liberty on licence
Suspended prison sentence
if during the suspension period the offender does not commit any dither crimes the prison sentence will not be served
Minimum term of imprisonment
Seven years for anyone aged 18 or over for 3rd conviction for dealing in class A drugs
Unpaid work requirement
Offender must work between 40 and 300 hours on a suitable project organised by the probation service (paint school building)
An activity requirement
Offender must participate in specified activities - e.g meet up with the victim
A programme requirement
Offender must participate in a programme of activity - e.g anger management
A prohibited activity requirement
Offender must refrain from participating in any specified activity on any specified day(s)
A curfew requirement
Offender must remain at a specified place for between 2 and 12 in any 24 hour period.
(maximum of 6 months, offender is usually electronically tagged)
An exclusion requirement
Mode see ordered not to go to certain places at specified times ( persistent shop lifter banned from certain shopping areas) up to 2 years for offenders 16 and over
A residence requirement
Offender required to reside at a specified place (e.g home)
A mental health treatment requirement
Offender can consent to being treated by a doctor or psychologist
A drug rehabilitation requirement
An offender who is a habitual drug user could be treated for their addiction under this requirement
An alcohol treatment requirement
an offender who is an alcoholic could be
