Art 1a
Use of animals for experimental/educational/other purposes in a way that causes pain, suffering, distress, or lasting harm equal or higher than caused by a needle under good vet practices. Also all institutions etc around it.
Art 1b
An experimental animal is used for scientific or educational purposes and even when still at the breeder. It encompasses living non-human vertebrates, including : self feeding larvae, mammalian foetusses from the 1/3 of their development. Also cephalopods.

Het is verboden een dierproef te verrichten indien de persoon die het project en de dierproef opzet niet voldoet aan bij of krachtens algemene maatregel van bestuur met het oog op de deskundigheid en de bekwaamheid te stellen regels.

Order of getting experiment approved
1) Write a proposal with appendices and non-technical summary. 2) Discuss with AWB. 3) Send it to DEC and CCD. 4) CCD grants max 5 year license. 5) Submit work protocol to AWB. 6) AWB checks for 3R’s and if it fits the license.
Homologous, Isomorphic and Partial model
1) same cause and symptoms. 2) Same symptoms but different cause. 3) Only part of the disease is modelled.
Steps of picking a model
1) Define key question. 2) Define disease/matter. 3) Consider feasability and welfare. 4) Consider practical issues. 5) Synthesis of evidence.
