A
- Most important part of parliament.
- 650 MP’s.

What is the first reading?
A
- Introduces bill to commons.
- Formal announcement followed by vote to move to second reading.

What is the second reading?
A
- Main principles considered and debated by HoC.
- If vote wins, moves to committee stage.

What is the committee stage?
A
- Examined by small groups of MP’s from different parties.
- Committee reports back to entire house and recommends changes.

What is the report stage?
A
- MP’s opportunity to debate and suggest amendments.
- Can spread across several days.

What is the third reading?
A
- Final chance for commons to debate, no changes allowed.
- House votes to pass or reject.

What is the House of Lords stage?
A
- Bill goes to house of lords.
- Goes through same stages as commons.
- Returns back to HoC to accept or reject (HoC have final say).

What is the Royal Assent?
A
- After passed it goes to monarch.
- Monarchs agreement to make bill into act.
- Law comes into form immediately.

- 8000 peers, 92 hereditary peers.
- 26 church of England bishops and arch bishops.
