Considers area of law which need reforming-

Codification
LC reviews current laws-
Create a code that sets out all the law in codified manner-
Code includes existing law and new laws-
Easier to understand and find laws-
LC concentrate on codifying small areas of law
Consolidation
Brings acts with similar areas of law into one ACT-
Law isn’t reviewed or changed-
Becomes more accessible as it’s in one place
Repeal
Removes legislations that are no longer relevant-
Makes the law more efficient-
LC removes the legislation from statute books
Advantages
Saves parliament’s time-
Law is researched by legal experts-
There is consultation before drawing up proposals-
Whole areas of law are considered-
Can bring the law on one topic together in one act
Simplifies and modernised the law
Disadvantages
Government is slow to implement the reforms-
Some reforms may never be implemented-
Lack of parliamentary time to discuss the proposed reforms-
Parliament may make changes to the proposed reforms without legal expertise
