Young people between the ages of 12 and 17 inclusive, who commit criminal offenses
Young offenders
When young offenders have committed previous offended or serious violent crimes and pose a threat in society, secure custody is ordered

Open custody
A report prepared by a youth probation officer at a judges request before sentencing the young offender

Foster home
A facility designed to house several young offenders and operated by a professionally trained staff
Group home
Money awarded to a plaintiff as a deterrent for the purpose of punishing the defendant for an uncaring or violent act, also called exemplary damages.
Punitive damages
A legal document filed by the plaintiff to initiate a civil action, also called a writ of summons
Statement of claim
Money awarded to a plaintiff for a specific out of pocket expense
Special damages
Written statements exchanged between the parties in a civil action outlining the details of each party case
Pleadings
A process for resolving disputes between persons through a third party whose decision is final and binding
Arbitration
A legal document for higher courts outlining the defendants response me defense to the plaintiffs claim
Statement of defense
A meeting of the parties in a civil action with a judge to clarify and narrow the issues in dispute prior to trial
Pre trial conference
A civil wrong or injury, other than a breach contract for which the injured par may seek damages from the wrong doer

Writ of summons
A term for process such as meditation, negotiation, arbitration and set,event designed to resolve if settle disputes without former trials
Alternative dispute resolution
An order to appear in criminal court, an order toms defendant requesting him or her to appear for trial to defeat a plaintiff claim
Summons
A compulsory automobile insurance for all licensed drivers; involves 3 parties when a claim is made
