deaf man from France that came to America and The Cofounder of Gallaudet University, called the Deaf Apostle of America, helped establish foundation ASL as we know it today

How did clerc go Deaf? What senses does he have left?
He fell off of his high chair and into a fireplace. He burned his right cheek really badly causing him to lose his hearing and sense of smell. He also lost his sense of taste. He later said that he believed he was born deaf. He has sight, and touch left.

His dad was a mayor and justice of the peace. and his mom is just known as being the mayors wife.

He did not go to school until he was 12. He attended the Royal Institution for the Deaf in France

Thomas Gallaudet offered him a 3 year contract to come and teach the deaf.
