Jupiter, king of the gods: story summary

A

Jupiter’s father Saturn was the king of the titans but whenever his wife, Ops, gave birth he ate the child, in fear of them overthrowing him. However, Jupiter was hidden by his mother and, instead, she gave Saturn a rock to eat. Jupiter grew up in secret with his mother. One day, they gave Saturn a drink that made him throw up all the children. Together, Jupiter and his siblings overthrew their father and Jupiter became the king of the gods.

Minerva’s birth: story summary

A

Jupiter feared his children would overthrow him like he had done to his father. To prevent this, he ate his wife Metis while she was pregnant. Metis was not happy. She gave birth inside of Jupiter and her and the daughter started giving him headaches. Jupiter ordered Vulcan to axe open his head to stop the headaches. When Vulcan cut open Jupiter’s head, surprisingly a fully grown goddess dressed in armour, ready to fight, sprang out. Her name was Minerva.

A

Venus was forced to marry Vulcan so she was unhappy and was unfaithful to him. Her most notorious affair was with Mars, the handsome god of war. Her and Mars snuck out in the night. Vulcan caught them in the bedroom and was angry. He made a net that captured Venus and Mars and embarrassed them. Mars and Venus were angry but Vulcan was happy.

A

Proserpina was a beautiful goddess. Her mother was Ceres and they loved each other very much. Pluto, the god of the underworld, caught sight of Proserpina. He fell in love. He captured Proserpina and took her to the underworld. She was very sad. He made lots and lots of food for her but she did not eat. Eventually, she ate 6 pomegranate seeds. Meanwhile, Ceres was searching was her lost daughter. She found her and was very happy. Then, they found out that Proserpina had to stay with Pluto because she had eaten the 6 pomegranate seeds! Ceres and Proserpina were devastated! However, Jupiter helped them. Proserpina could stay with her mother for 6 months and the other 6 with Pluto. On the months Ceres was with Proserpina, the agriculture thrived but on the months she was away, the crops died.
