Lateral - Superficial Muscles Flashcards
Masseter Origin
Facial crest & zygomatic arch
Masseter Insertion
lateral surface the ramus of the mandible
Trapezius cervicis origin
Nuchal ligament
Trapezius cervicis insertion
Free edge of scapula spine (entire length) - blends with shoulder & forelimb fascia
Trapezius cervicis function
when activated, draws scapula cranially (forward) & dorsally (upward) and elevated the shoulder
Trapezius thoracis origin
supraspinous ligament from T3-T10
Trapezius thoracis insertion
ends on caudal portion of the tuberosity of the scapula spine
Trapezius thoracis function
When activated, draws scapula caudally (backward) & dorsally (upward) and elevates the shoulder
Brachiocephalicus origin
Mastoid process & nuchal crest of skull
Brachiocephalicus insertion
Ends on deltoid tuberosity and the crest of the humerus
Brachiocephalicus function
Protracts limb (draws forward)- prime limb mover when head & neck are fixed
When one side contracted, muscle bends the neck laterally toward shortened side
Omotransversarius origin
Transverse process of C2-4 and continues to wing of atlas
Omotransversarius insertion
deltoid tuberosity + shoulder fascia
Omotransversarius fucntion
protracts the limb + when one side contracted it bends neck laterally towards the shortened side
Deltoideus origin
scapula
