Peroneus longus:

  • Origin - proximal 2/3 of the lateral surface of fibula and intermuscular septa
  • Insertion - lateral side of the base of the 1st metatarsal and the adjoining part of the medial cuneiform.
  • Nerve supply - superficial peroneal nerve (L5, S1).
  • Action - eversion of foot and assists plantarflexion of the ankle. In addition, peroneus longus is a factor in maintaining the lateral longitudinal and transverse arches of the foot.

  • Insertion - base of 5th metatarsal.
  • Nerve supply - superficial peroneal nerve (L5, S1).
