Late tooth development Flashcards
what is morphogenesis and when does it begin?
is the detemination of crown shape by cell proliferation and movement
begins at CAP stage of tooth development
what is the key function of the primary enamel knot?
secrete large amount of signals- growth factors
why does the PEK not grow and proliferate?
the cells dont have receptors for the GFs they secrete
egs of signal GFs secreted by cells in the enamel knot?
BMPs, fgfs, wnts
when and how long does the PEK emerge?
WHERE does it emerge?
only exists during CAP stage then eliminated by apoptosis
formed in the centre of enamel in the Inner Enamel Epithelium
what cusp on molars does the PEK mark the position of?
the 1st buccal cusp
3 layers of the dental follicle ?
1-inner layer 2-loose CT 3-outer layer
what type of teeth do secondary enamel knots form in?
ONLY multicusp teeth
how is the number of SEK linked to number of cusps?
no of SEK determines no of cusps
what drives the bending of the IEE into a CAP shape ?
the juxtaposition between the non proliferating cells of the PEK and the proliferating cells of the rest of the epithelial cap
what things happen during the late bell stage(20th week)
dental follicle organises into 3 groups
tooth buds form
dental lamina breaks down
cervical root becomes HERS leads to root development
capillaries invade OEE to innervate enamel w nutrients
what are the little clusters called that are broken down pices of the dental lamina that remain?
pearls of serres
