Late management after cardiac arrest Flashcards
Narrow complex tachycardia causes
sinus tachycardia
AF
atrial flutter
focal atrial tachycardia
AVNRT
AVRT
Broad complex tachycardia causes
ventricular tachycardia
‘SVT’ with aberration
pre-excited tachycardia
pacemaker-associated tachycardia
How does ventricular tachycardia present on an ECG?
no P waves
regular QRS complexes
broad QRS complexes - seen in all 12 leads
no identifiable T waves
slurred initiation of QRS
What causes fast, irregular and broad (FBI) tachycardia?
atrial fibrillation with accessory pathway
Possible causes of collapse
cardiac
cardiovascular
catastrophic vascular event
neurological
psychogenic
What tachycardic events can cause collapse?
ventricular tachycardia
ventricular fibrillation
polymorphic ventricular tachycardia/Torsades de Pointes
What bradycardic events can cause collapse?
AV block
SA block
What cardiac underlying causes are there for collapse?
ischaemic heart disease
cardiomyopathy
structural heart disease
ion channel abnormalities
What is Brugada syndrome?
affects way electrical signals pass through heart
can cause tachy arrhythmias
Causes of long QT syndrome
drugs: amiodarone, tricyclic antidepressants, antibiotics, fluconazole, erythromycin, metoclopramide, quinidine, haloperidol, ondansetron, SSRIs
genetic (K or Na channel mutations):Jervell and Lange-Nielson syndrome (associated with deafness), Romano Ward syndrome
myocardial disease
electrolyte abnormality: hypocalcaemia, hypokalaemia, hypomagnesaemia
