LAT Interbody Fusion Approach Portfolio Flashcards
1
Q
Posterior Approach - GOOD vs. BAD
A
GOOD: Anterior graft placement allows for secondary fusion, secure pedicle screw fixation and spinal manipulations
BAD: Significant muscle disruption, post-op recovery times & limited graft size. Have to resect bone and retract neural structure
2
Q
Optimal Conditions for Lat Approach
A
- Access to L1-L5 disc spaces
- Post-Diskectomy DDD
- Adjacent Level DDD
- Degenerative Scoliosis
- Grade 1 Spondylosisthesis
3
Q
Lat Approach - Good vs Bad
A
- GOOD - Direct visualization of disc space allows placement for a LARGE graft - minimal muscle disruption
- BAD - Approach is difficult in overweight patients. Risk to abdominal viscera and great muscles. Requires an ACCESS Surgeon.
