What is exercise?
A specific physiological stress that elicits a a specific adaption.
Myofibrillar hypertrophy increases the myofibrillars in the muscle fiber. True or False
True
Repeated acute exercise leads to chronic adaptions. True or False?
True.
What impacts muscle mass?
Genetics Nutrition Nervous system activation Physical Activity Environmental Factors Endocrine (hormonal) Influences
What is skeletal muscle hypertrophy?
It is the increased SIZE and NUMBER of the myofibrillar proteins, actin & myosin +an increased size of the sarcoplasm
What is muscle atrophy?
A > amount of protein break down compared to protein syntheis. It is caused by inactivity/a lack of mechnical stress
What helps prevent muscle atrophy?
RT/Mechanical stress, and > protein consumption for MPS.
What protein is a key regulator MPS and MPB?
mTOR (specifically mTORC1)
It turns on MPS bc its upregulated by RT
(It is a negative regulator of autophagy tho)
