Last minute pharm, and clinical Flashcards
How do Beta agonists support cardiac performance?
By enhancing the rate and extent of diastolic relaxation aka positive lusitropic effect.
They increase filling time during diastole while increasing HR which maintains SV, which could decrease if only HR increased alone.
How do phosphodiesterase (type 3) inhibitors work, what are the names of a few of these drugs?
PDE-3 inhibitors increase levels of cAMP which are normally broken down by PDE. This allows for more cardiac muscle contraction and vasodilation in the periphery.
IV drugs milrinone and inamrinone.
Do all Beta blockers treat CHF?
No its not a class effect
3 drugs that treat CHF are:
carvedilol, metoprolol, and Bisoprolol.
“carve me bishop, I’m dying of a big heart”
