Q

Discuss a direct air capture facility in Iceland and include reference.

A

A direct air capture facility built in Iceland last year has been advertised as a ‘reasonably’ priced negative emission solution (may not be as expensive as academics first thought).

The plant turns captured CO2 into stone by injecting it into the ground which stops it from escaping.
Air capture machines are powered by renewable geothermal energy.

Plant only at a pilot scale, capturing each year only the amount of CO2 an average American household emits, however it shows great potential.
(Love, 2017).

Q

Discuss a Direct Air Capture facility in Switzerland and include reference.

A

It can capture 1,000 metric tones of CO2 from the air each year.

Captured CO2 is supplied to a nearby greenhouse which boosts crop yields.

Could help us go emission negative & meet growing food demands.
(Love, 2017).
