The unity in Christ of all those he has redeemed the church on earth, in Heaven, and in Purgatory
Communion of Saints
Perfect life of supreme happiness with God and the Communion of Saints for all eternity
Heaven
A study of and teaching about the “lasting things” (death,judgment,heaven,hell,purgatory, the second coming of Christ and the resurrection of the body)
Eschatology
The state of purification that takes place after death for those who need to be made clean and holy before meeting the all-holy God in Heaven
Purgatory
Eternal separation from God that results from a person dying after freely and deliberately choosing to act against God’s will (that is not repenting of moral sin)
Hell
An offense against God through a violation of truth, reason, and conscience
Sin
The prideful disobedience of Adam and Eve and the effects of this disobedience that all humans inherit
Original sin
Personal, individual sin; an act, word, or desire contrary to eternal law
Actual Sin
Venial sin-“lesser sins” that are a stumbling block on the path to following Jesus
Mortal sin- the most serious kind of sin that kills our relation to God and others (1 John 5:-6-17)
Degrees of Sin
Excessive belief in ones own abilities, that interferes with the individual’s recognition of the grace of God. Known as the Vanity
Pride
Desire for other’s traits, status, abilities, or situation
Envy
Inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires
Gluttony
An ordinate desire for sexual pleasures
List
(Wrath) spurns love and opts instead for fury, refuses forgiveness
Anger
Desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual
Greed
