exposition
beginning of the story
rising action
events in the story become complicated
climax
turning point of a narrative work is its point of highest tension and drama, or it is the time when the action starts during which the solution is given.
falling action
what the characters are doing after the story’s most dramatic part has happened.
resolution
when conflicts are resolved and the story concludes.

when two people are fighting

indirect vs. direct
Direct characterization, or explicit characterization, describes the character through their physical description, line of work, or passions and pursuits. Indirect characterization describes a character through their thoughts, actions, speech, and dialogue.
protagonist
the good guy/ usually the main character
antagonist
the enemy protagonist
flat
two-dimensional in that they are relatively uncomplicated and do not change throughout the course of a work
round
complex and undergo development, sometimes sufficiently to surprise the reader.
dynamic
undergoes an important inner change, as a change in personality or attitude:
static
doesn’t undergo any significant change in character, personality or perspective over the course of a story.
simile
uses like or as in comparison
metaphor
compares two things but doesn’t use like or as
personification
assigns human qualities and attributes to objects or other non-human things.
symol
are often characters, settings, images, or other motifs that stand in for bigger ideas. Authors often use symbols (or “symbolism”) to give their work with more meaning and to make a story be about more than the events it describes.
imagery
includes figurative and metaphorical language to improve the reader’s experience through their senses
