•Positive reinforcement to be given just the same as with behaviour.
Nativist: Chomsky
- Chomsky said we had a LAD (language accquistion device).
* helps to extract rules of language and grammar since it is universal
Underextension
Not realising that a word can categorize objects, children tend to think ‘ball’ is just for there ball
Overextension
Is when children think everything or everyone is the same, for example all men are ‘dads’
Interactionist: Vygotsky/Piaget/Bruner
Vygotsky: MKO and language comes from social interactions
Places more emphasis on the role of language in cognitive development
Bruner: language is a tool that enhances and amplifies thought
Piaget: language develops on thought and mind
Sees that language and thought are 2 seperate processes
