Adverb
An adverb is a word that modifies /adds description to a verb, an adjective or another adverb. They often end in ‘ly’, but not always.
Superlative adjective
A superlative adjective is one that states the subject is the most or least of something e.g slowest or fastest
Comparative adjective
A comparative adjective is one that states the subject is more or less than others e.g slower or faster

Pathetic fallacy
Pathetic fallacy is when the weather reflects the mood.
Simile
A simile is when an object is compared to another using words such as ‘as’ and ‘like’.
Oxymoron
An oxymoron is when two opposite/contrasting words are put together for effect.
Personification
Personification is when an object is given or described with human characteristics.
Metaphor
A metaphor is when an object is compared to another object but does not use the words ‘as’ or ‘like’.
Descriptive verb
A descriptive verb is a verb which gives more information about an action e.g rather than saying ‘running’ you could say ‘stampeding’ to add more detail.
