Imperative verbs
An imperative verb is an instruction or command
e.g. Sit down!
Alliteration
Alliteration is when two or more words starts with the same sound
e.g. Busy bee
Repetition
When the word or sentences is repeated many times
e.g. Today is very hot day.The ground is very hot.
Rule of three
It is a list of three things events or characters for effect. It is used for emphasis and to convince people to do it.
e.g. Ready,steady,go!
Hyperbole
When the writer exaggerates to convince the reader.
e.g. I am so hungry I could eat a horse
Emotive language
It is the language technique which makes the reader feel more emotive
e.g. Can you really abandon them to live in these dangerous conditions ?
Counter arguments
A counter argument is an argument against another argument, idea or suggestion
e.g. Cell phones in class are a good thing because they aid student learning and allow them to look up new words and informations
Anecdote
A short story about somebody’s life which could be funny, inspirational and tragic
e.g. I moved to Cornwall three years ago. It wasn’t until I moved to the seaside that I started swimming. Now I couldn’t live without it
Direct address
When the writer tries to communicate with the reader directly using their name or pronouns
e.g. You need to get involved!
Facts & statistics
Fact : Something that is true and can be proven
e.g. Paracetamol can relieve the pain of a headache.
Statistics: Using the numbers (%) to present as a fact.
e.g. 33% of people suffer from headache once a month
Rhetorical question
A question that have been asked, does not have any answer
e.g. Why do we need oxygen to breathe?
