emotive words
when words are chosen for more powerful connections e.g. slaughtered instead of died
rhetorical question
questions posed by the speaker in order to make a point, the answers are so self- evident and obvious that the answer already comes into someone’s head e.g if you tickle us, do we not laugh?
repetition
repetition is when a question/quote is repeated which creates a powerful rhythm e.g. I have a dream, I have a dream that one day…
vivid imagery
an image is made simple and memorable by words e.g. as they sat on the soft, sugary san beach waiting for the sunset
triads
lists of three/rule of three- creates a compelling rhythm
inclusive language
a speaker makes a point to include the audience using words like ‘we’ and ‘us’ to connect them with the speakers opinion
personal anecdote
when a speaker shares of themselves, this creates an intimacy with the audience
hyperbole
exaggeration e.g. it’s raining cats and dogs
superlative language
the best/ the brightest/ most amazing
