refers to the positioning of the body
anatomical position
it allows medical personnel and anatomist to explain exactly where the body structure is.
directional terms
towards the head end or upper part of the structure or the body, nasa above
superior (cranial or cephalic)
ex: our eyes is superior to our nose, meaning our eyes are located above our nose.
away from the head end or towards part of the structure or the body; below
inferior (caudal)
ex: our lips are inferior to our eyes, meaning it is located below our eyes.
toward or at the front of the body; infront of
anterior (ventral)
ex. our toes are anterior to our ankles.
toward or at the backside of the body; behind.
posterior (dorsal)
towards or at the midline of the body; on the inner side of
medial
ex. our heart is medial to our rib cage.
away from the midline of the body; on the outer side of
lateral
ex. our arms are lateral to our heart.
between a more medial and a more lateral structure.
intermediate
ex. the collar bone is intermediate between the breast bone and shoulder, nasa middle sya ng dalawang structure
close to the origin of the body or malapit sya sa trunk natin, or the point of attachment to the limb
proximal
the elbow is proximal to our wrist.
opposite of proximal
farther from the origin of the body
part of at the point of attachment of a limb to the body trunk
distal
ex. the knee is distal to our thighs (malayo sya from our trunk)
external part of our body
superficial
ex. the skin is superficial to skeleton
an internal part of the body
deep
ex. the lungs are to the deep of the rib cage
