Terminology
special words used to talk about a particular subject.
Dead language
a language that is no longer in use as a spoken language (Latin).
Plagiarise
to take someone else’s work and state that it is your.
Plagiarism
the practice of taking someone’s work and claiming it is yours.
Transcript
A written copy of something that someone said.
Revise
to study something you have already learnt before you taken an exam.
Revision
The study done in preparation for an exam.
Native speaker
Someone who has learnt a language spoken at home since they were a baby, not since they were a child or adult.
Sit (an exam)
To take an exam.
Fluent
Someone who is able to speak a language easily, quickly, and well.
Natural language proccesing (NLP)
A field of linguistics and computer science concerned with developing ai that is able to process and analyse natural language.
Natural language
The way native speakers use a language as they are able to process and produce.
Lyrics
The words of a song.
Swear
To promise or state that you are going to tell the truth or behave in a certain way. Also, use insulting or abusive language when you are very angry. Swearing is offensive and not nice.
False friends
A word that exists in one language and is easily confused with a similar word in another language as it looks the same but has different meaning.
Idiom
A phrase or group of words with a fixed order that means something different than the meanings of the words on their own.
