What is Emotive language?
Language that evokes emotion in the reader
What is an Idiom?
A word or phrase that is not taken literally
What is an imperative?
A command that prompts action
Allusion
a reference to a well-known story, person, event, location or idea
Cliche
a phrase that has been over-used and lost its meaning
Hyperbole
an over-exaggeration
Anecdote
a brief story told to catch the readers attention/illustrate a point
Antithesis
placing contrasting terms together to give balance
Connotation
the tone or emotional association a word has, positive and negative.
Litotes
the deliberate use of an understatement for effect
Sibilance
repetition of the letter ‘S’

use of informal language
